About Me!

My name is Madison King and I’m a senior at First Colonial High
School who aspires to be a future teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher
for as long as I could remember. I used to “play school” as a child and teach my sister whenever I wasn’t in school learning myself. I value teaching more than most because of my strong passion for kids. For most girls, Barbie’s were their hobby, but for me it has always been teaching. One word my peers would use to describe me would be obsessed. By obsessed, it means that I'm a go-getter and I do anything in my power to achieve what I have my mind set on. For example, I play softball for First Colonial as well as on a travel team. I am always the first one at the field for practice, and I am the last one to leave. I am always looking to better myself!
After graduating from the Legal Studies Academy at First Colonial, I plan on pursuing a masters degree in Inter Disciplinary Liberal Studies (IDLS) and a minor in Secondary Education and/or Elementary at James Madison University. Last year, I was offered a scholarship to play softball at James Madison, and I accepted. By being an athlete, it has taught me the meaning of hard work and diligence. Also, after completing my 5 year program for education at JMU, I plan on coaching the high school softball team at the high school that I will be teaching at or that is nearest to me if I am teaching Elementary school.
This school year I am a kick-off mentor for FCHS. This means I mentor a group of freshmen and make sure they have the best first year possible here at FC. I am also involved in Model UN which is a model United Nations where we have conferences representing the different countries in the UN. This year, I am also Vice President of the Future Educators Association (FEA) which is the club involved with Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow (VTFT), and last year I was nominated Secretary. I am also involved in DECA, FCCLA, Model Judiciary, and Mock Trial.
Last year, I completed my internship at Lynnhaven Middle School teaching seventh grade. By completing the first year internship, I learned many things. The first thing I learned was that middle school students were very challenging and presented a lot of opportunities for improvement. The second thing I learned was that even though the students had multiple behavioral issues, I still found that this profession is my passion and something I would love to do for the rest of my life.
